1998 HISTORY
AUGUST 1998
Plans were drawn up for a local cable access sports show, titled "Sports
Wire", to be hosted by a "Behind the Scenes" man at MediaOne named Michael
Gastonguay. The shows plans failed due to conflcits in staff at the Beverly
television studio.
Also, August also marked the begining month of the "Mentos Kid Page"
which included the first SportsWire page. The page was designed by Gastonguay
who was tutored in HTML by his good friend Jamie Michalski.
SEPTEMBER 1998
Gastonguay's "Sports Wire" project first emerged onto the world wide
web as it was featured in a section of "The Mentos Kid Site" (not unlike
the wireMEDIA project we've offered this past year). The page featured
sports headlines, editorials, and event coverage. Updates occured every
one to two weeks.
OCTOBER 1998
This month marked Gastonguay's broadcast debut on cable television.
Mike was chosen by Hamilton-Wenham access coordinator, Mark Crory, to commentate
a varsity girls' volleyball game in Hamilton. The show aired twice during
that month.
NOVEMBER 1998
With his the idea of his own "Sports Wire" show becoming less and less
of a possibility, Gastonguay began to focus on his sports web page. The
Sports Wire site was rennovated and renamed "the sportsZone". The page
was still updated every one to two weeks.
